Green Is How We Do Business
We are committed to sustainability and the practice of responsible forestry.
At Better Wood Products®, green is more than a buzzword. Green means sustainability, responsibility, andcommitment — it's how we do business. NO live trees are ever cut. A byproduct of harvesting pine stumps is thecleanup of the area, which speeds forest regeneration and creates regular employment for thousands of people inlocal communities.
Collected from responsibly managed forests and tree farms in Central America, our raw material comes from stumps, never standing trees. For three generations, campers, cooks, and families gathered around the fire havetrusted our products to be easier, safer, and more sustainable..
The Three Tree Pledge Program©
Better Wood Products® relies on the vitality of timber as a natural resource, so naturally we're committed to responsible forestry practices, education, and supporting sustainable forestry.
As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainable and responsible forest practices, we are proud originators of the Three Tree Pledge Program©. This program ensures that three seedlings are planted for every single tree used, assuring the health and continuity of this valuable resource. Better Wood Products® believes that green practices don't just create a better, healthier planet now — they sustain it for generations to come.
The world is rich with forestland, and we cherish it for its natural beauty and as an important renewable resource. Forests support environmental, social, and economic needs: ecosystems and wildlife habitats, the enjoyment they bring to tourists, hikers, and campers, the jobs they support, the resources they provide our industry, and the carbonthey store. Many cultures remain forever connected to their forest heritage. For all these reasons, we do our part to maintain the health and vitality of this natural resource — because properly managed forests can last forever.
Partnering for the Future
The Three Tree Pledge is an ongoing tree-planting initiative in partnership with UNACIFOR (Universidad Nacional de Ciencias Forestales), the National University of Forestry Sciences in Siguatepeque, Honduras.
UNACIFOR manages a 5,550-hectare pine forest, using it both to educate students in modern forestry management and to help fund the school's operations.Based on the number of stumps used in Better Wood Products® production, we provide funding to replace each tree used with three healthy seedlings on UNACIFOR's managed forest. Managing timber sustainably requires scale and patience. UNACIFOR's plan keeps mature trees continually available through three rounds of thinning, removing less desirable trees so selected trees get the crown space and sunlight they need to grow. Each stage spans several years of growth followed by a thinning — a process that, staggered across the forest, produces usable mature timber in about 40 years while keeping continual production possible.
UNACIFOR & the Local Community
UNACIFOR also educates the private landowners surrounding the school's land, many of whom lack the luxury of time and resources.
It takes decades for trees to reach maturity, and landowners often need income now — every harvested tree is a few more dollars today. UNACIFOR teaches the long-term profits of proper management, replacing short-term cutting with sustainable practice. Paired with the Three Tree Pledge's funding for new seedlings, this partnership keeps resource production sustainable while protecting the integrity of the forest. More Than Forest Management
Wood products are attractive, durable, and renewable — and we believe properly managed forests can last forever.
We value every tree we harvest, and we've built our manufacturing to use every part of it, from the sap-enriched fatwood in cut stumps to the needles and pine cones. No part goes unused. We also choose our resources carefully. We use only species that grow naturally and abundantly in the region, and we replenish only what we harvest. That keeps the ecosystem biodiverse and protects against over-harvesting. Every tree planted through the Three Tree Pledge adds to that biodiversity, one seedling at a time.
